Freshdesk costs less than Zendesk at every team size in the seat cost run: $8,700 a year for 25 agents on Freshdesk Omni Growth against $16,500 on Zendesk Suite Team, both on annual billing. Zendesk counts more native channels, 9 of 12 against 7, and bills its AI per automated resolution, while Freshdesk bills Freddy AI Agent per session whether or not the AI resolves anything.
So Zendesk vs Freshdesk turns on which side of that split costs your team more: seats, or channels and AI billing. Every figure below is a list price as of 8 October 2026, taken from the three October runs.
Leaderboard positions side by side
| Leaderboard | Zendesk | Freshdesk |
|---|---|---|
| Seat cost, 25 agents | 9th of 11, $16,500 a year | 7th of 11, $8,700 a year |
| Seat cost, 5 agents | 12th of 13, $3,300 a year | 10th of 13, $1,740 a year |
| Seat cost, 100 agents | 8th of 11, $66,000 a year | 6th of 11, $34,800 a year |
| AI price per outcome | Ranked: $1.50 per automated resolution (committed), $2.00 pay-as-you-go | Ranked: $49 per 100 sessions |
| Channel and language coverage | Tied 2nd of 33, 9 native channels | Tied 10th of 33, 7 native channels |
| G2 | 4.3 (7,094 reviews) | 4.4 (3,777 reviews) |
The two AI prices sit in different unit groups on the AI price leaderboard, an automated resolution against a session, so they are not ranked against each other. The October AI price run prints each unit beside its price.
Seat cost at 5, 25 and 100 agents
Both vendors sell a $19 email plan: Zendesk Support Team ($25 on monthly billing) and plain Freshdesk Growth ($23 monthly). Live chat moves the comparison to Zendesk Suite Team at $55 an agent a month billed yearly ($69 monthly) and to Freshdesk Omni Growth at $29 ($35 monthly), the cheapest plan with email and live chat on each side.
| Team size | Zendesk Suite Team, annual billing | Zendesk, monthly billing | Freshdesk Omni Growth, annual billing | Freshdesk, monthly billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 agents | $3,300 | $4,140 | $1,740 | $2,100 |
| 25 agents | $16,500 | $20,700 | $8,700 | $10,500 |
| 100 agents | $66,000 | $82,800 | $34,800 | $42,000 |
Neither vendor states a seat cap for these plans, so the same plan prices all three team sizes. The next plans up are Zendesk Suite Professional at $115 an agent a month billed yearly ($149 monthly) and Freshdesk Omni Pro at $79 ($95). The seat cost run lists every plan with its source.
AI price and unit
Zendesk charges $1.50 per automated resolution on committed volume, which needs 100 or more resolutions bought ahead, and $2.00 pay-as-you-go. An automated resolution is a customer request the AI agent resolves without escalation to a human agent, counted per conversation. Suite Team includes 5 automated resolutions per agent a month and Suite Professional 10, capped at 10,000 a year. Since 18 May 2026 Zendesk groups resolutions into tiers (assisted escalation, contained resolution, verified resolution) that zendesk.com/pricing does not price separately. Zendesk states 80+ languages for its AI agents.
Freshdesk sells Freddy AI Agent sessions in packs of 100 for $49. A chat session is every interaction within 24 hours of the session starting; an email session is a 72-hour window from the customer’s first email. Sessions are billed whether or not the AI resolves the request. The 500 free sessions on Growth, Pro and Enterprise are one time per account, and packs expire with the payment cycle. Freshdesk states 60+ languages for its AI agents.
At 2,000 AI-resolved conversations a month, Zendesk’s committed rate comes to $3,000 at most, before the included allowance and excluding seats. Freshdesk has no comparable figure: a session is a time window, so the bill follows traffic, not resolutions. The resolution rate guide covers why those two meters behave differently.
Channels each supports natively
| Channel | Zendesk | Freshdesk |
|---|---|---|
| Native | Native | |
| Live chat | Native (Suite plans) | Native (Omni) |
| Voice | Native (Suite plans; usage beyond allowances billed) | Add-on (Freshcaller) |
| SMS | Add-on | No credit |
| Add-on | Native (Omni) | |
| Facebook Messenger | Native | Native |
| Native | Native | |
| X | Native | No credit |
| In-app SDK | Native | No credit |
| Help center | Native | Native |
| Community forum | Native | Native |
| Slack or Teams | Add-on | No credit |
“No credit” means the channel is not stated as part of a Freshdesk plan, so the coverage run counts nothing for it.
Where they differ
- What the AI bill counts. Zendesk charges only when the AI resolves a request without escalation. Freshdesk charges per session, resolved or not.
- The included AI allowance. Zendesk includes 5 automated resolutions per agent every month on Suite Team. Freshdesk includes 500 sessions once per account.
- Voice. Native in Zendesk Suite plans. An add-on (Freshcaller) on Freshdesk.
- WhatsApp. Native on Freshdesk Omni. An add-on on Zendesk, marked “Additional fees apply”.
- X and an in-app SDK. Native on Zendesk. No credit on Freshdesk.
- Seat price for email plus chat. $29 an agent a month on Freshdesk Omni Growth against $55 on Zendesk Suite Team, both billed annually.
Both count a native help center, a community forum, Facebook Messenger and Instagram, so none of those separates them.
Who should pick which
Pick Freshdesk if the seat bill decides it. Freshdesk Omni Growth costs less than Zendesk Suite Team at 5, 25 and 100 agents on both billing terms, and WhatsApp is in the Omni plan.
Pick Zendesk if voice, X or an in-app SDK must be native, if AI should be billed only for resolved requests, or if the 80+ stated AI languages matter against Freshdesk’s 60+.
For a wider field, the Zendesk competitors ranking puts Freshdesk 7th of 10 ranked alternatives on seat cost at 25 agents, and the help desk software ranking and ticketing software list rank both against the rest of the market.
